The deadline is looming as construction is set to begin on I-75 in Cobb County in September. Local billboard owners are asking the Marietta City Council’s judicial legislative committee to change a sign ordinance and allow several billboards in the construction zone to stay, rather than be demolished. Under the current ordinance, the billboards have to be within 100 feet of the highway and no more than 70 feet tall. But at last month’s meeting, the committee pushed the decision back another month. Georgia Department of Transportation is adding two lanes on the west side of Interstate 75. There is a total of 12 billboards affected…this is the second time billboard owners have met with the council.
