I-85 runs from northeast to southwest in Georgia for 179.9 miles. I-85 comes in from Alabama near West Point, goes through metro Atlanta, and out to South Carolina, crossing the Savannah River near Lake Hartwell.
In the course through metro Atlanta, I-85 runs concurrent with I-75 for several miles, which is known locally as the “Downtown Connector.”
I-85 passes through 13 counties in Georgia: Harris, Troup, Meriwether, Coweta, Fulton, Clayton, Dekalb, Gwinnett, Barrow, Jackson, Banks, Franklin, and Hart.
